Sage philosophy: About winning streaks and how to keep a cool head

The classical areas of application of sage (salvia officinalis) have been known since antiquity and have largely been confirmed by today's orthodox medicine. Sage is characterised by its effect against bacteria and fungi and is particularly effective against excessive sweating, respiratory diseases and problems in the mouth and throat. Therefore it is often used for bronchitis, laryngitis, colds and dental problems.

All plants from the labiate family, such as thyme, oregano, rosemary or the new superfood chia, are medicinal plants. And sage is no exception here either. Humans already recognized its powers in antiquity and since then sage has been used equally as a medicinal and spice plant. Labiates have a special effect on the conscious ego of man and are important medicinal plants for us, especially in this day and age.

If we look for clues as to how sage works on mind and soul, we will find it with Arab physicians in the early Middle Ages. They used sage to enhance their mental abilities. Sage has a concentration-promoting and stimulating effect on the brain and mental performance. For this reason, it is still an option for Alzheimer's treatment today.

Sage is therefore a real thinking spice and promotes above all the synchronisation of the two hemispheres of the brain. This enables us to better link our rational thinking and our perceptions, such as images, words, but also feelings. In short, we can better manage, classify and process the input. This makes sage an ideal companion at work and whenever we have to cope with a lot in our heads. Sage thus helps an overstrained head, which has reached its performance limit by increasing the coping capacity.

Too many pictures, too many conversations, too many problems, too much stress. What is going on? You're overheated with too much input. This is often the case, especially today, when we absorb new information almost without interruption. Via smartphone, at work, in family life, through television and radio we are constantly flooded with information. No wonder the brain is overheating and no longer playing along. Sage is the order of the day. It has the property of reducing the internal heat and returning our brain to a normal mode: a cool head.

Sound familiar? You feel good, then you talk to another person about their problems and then you feel bad yourself. A classic external energy situation. But since we have contact with many people during the day, we don't always notice when we take something with us from others. Note: Salvia officinalis is becoming rarer and rarer!

The old medicinal and spice plant Salvia officinalis is no longer available on the market as the main variety. Mostly the Greek sage Salvia fruticosa is sold as a spice and tea. Especially because the Greek sage thrives better in rooms. However, since Greek sage is inferior to real sage, you should look carefully at what you buy. A real sage in the garden is definitely the safest option.

Infused Water with sage, grapefruit and cucumber #thinkingspice #coolhead Recipe, DETOX Water, SPA Water, EMO Water

You need:

  • 1 grapefruit
  • 1 small cucumber
  • Approx. 10 leaves of fresh sage
  • 1 jug
  • Water

Here's how it's done:

Simply cut the grapefruit and the cucumber into fine slices and fill them into the jug. Cut the sage into small strips as well. Otherwise, the nutrients will not mix well with the water. Add the sage to the jug as well. Fill up with water and leave to cool for at least 2 hours, but also longer as preferred. You can also prepare the infused water the night before and take it to work the next day as a little brain booster in between or when everything just gets too much for you.
